Baan Sataanee
This open-sided Thai restaurant is a pleasant little spot with signs and colours echoing the unique design of one of Hua Hin’s most famous landmarks, the train station (the restaurant’s name in Thai actually means station house or station home). There is a typically large range of Thai food on offer such as spicy papaya salad (som tam) and deep fried chicken with sweet chilli dipping sauce (gai tort naam jim prik waan). Like most places in town, they can rustle up just about all of the popular Thai dishes you can think of. On the menu is also some rather tasty noodle soup (a firm favourite with Thais everywhere). Try the goo-ay dee-o moo (noodle soup with pork) or goo-ay dee-o tom yam ta-lay (noodle soup with spicy tom yam seafood flavour). You won’t see many foreigners here (the menu does include both Thai and English so you won’t have any trouble ordering), which is a shame as the food is delicious and inexpensive – two people can eat well here for just a hundred baht each, and the drinks are reasonably priced. We can definitely recommend Baan Sataanee if you want to try something away from the usual overpriced tourist restaurants.
